I Know

I look, and I see desolation,

I listen, and I hear weeping,

I feel, and there is pain.

Is there any hope?

How can I fix this broken mess?

Stumbling through the day to day,

Skimming the surface,

Never going deep –

Too afraid to face the grief.

Numbed, I fall to my knees

I cannot stand.

Then a voice whispers softly to my heart;

There is no reproach,

No “I told you so,”

The gentle words come tenderly:

“I know. I know.”
