Invisible

Image

You are invisible,

Yet you huddle on street corners

And by bus stops

You wait at crowded intersections;

Watching the BMW’s and Cadillac’s speed by,

Drivers with shifting eyes

That never rest on yours;

They see the familiar outline –

The card board signs,

Pitiful words scrawled in sharpie,

But they don’t see you.

They see the word

Branded on your forehead:

Homeless.

But they don’t see your

Shattered dreams

And vanished hopes,

They don’t see your potential,

They don’t see you at all.

You are invisible.
