He Kneels

He kneels to gather the scattered shards

Of hurting souls,

Wounded and left lying in the dust;

He cradles the fragments in His palm,

And tenderly fits them together again,

Pieces are missing,

They can never be the same,

But the new pattern is better than the old,

Without the shame, the brokenness

We are completely restored

He knows our pain, He felt it too,

The bitter agony of abandonment,

Scars and rough wood on that cross,

But still He kneels on dirty ground,

Healing our wretched humanity,

Setting us free.
