Red curtains

red curtains

Those two roads in a girl’s head,

Scrapbook photos,

A closet full of memories,

Clips from newspapers,

Old posters taped to walls;

It’s not hard to tell

What’s going through her mind;

But she sees them now,

Play-fighting on a painted floor,

She hides behind red curtains,

Peering through her camera lens;

There’s nothing holding her,

Save the invisible fear,

Creating caverns in her heart;

Yet secretly I see her smile,

For she knows the answer

Isn’t on a red-curtained stage –

‘Choose joy.’

It’s those two words

She’ll chase after;

Those simple words

That will define her.
