The moon

Crescent moon
Nousnou Iwasaki photo

Day sinks slower; dimming, diminishing,

And night, with triumphant silence,

Claims the hour.

The moon peers through the trees,

Creating a dizzy maze upon the field

Itself but a crescent,

A lantern to keep watch while we humans sleep –

A shimmering sliver-shape pointing to earth,

Like the fingernail of God.
